The DIVE CD ROM presents

1  a documentation of the project Kingdom of Piracy <KOP> during its residency at FACT, Liverpool
2  an introduction into the world of free software, free networks and collaborative online activities
3  dynebolic, the bootable GNU / Linux distribution

In the <KOP> section of this CD you will find descriptions of old and new <KOP> commissioned projects and critical writings. Three new works -- The Frequency Clock, Last.fm, Nine9 -- which explore the shared networked space have been curated to be part of the exhibition. The web interface and installation BURN questions the collateral damage of current copyright regimes. Five commissioned essays investigate the past, present and future of Intellectual Property in relation to art, politics and civil society.

DIVE offers far more than a documentation of <KOP>. We want to introduce you to the world of digital abundance and of legitimate free exchange of ideas, software, projects and of shared online resources. DIVE invites you to explore selected art works that inspire a new way of thinking; of software applications that can be freely copied, distributed, used and modified, software that is ideal for community art projects, online collaboration and individual work. In a special 'online activities' section you can learn about and participate in such ongoing collaborations. Different licence models offer you a choice of how you can release your work in a free manner without the danger of it getting commercially exploited.

The DIVE CD ROM contains Dynebolic, a free software operating system running out of the box on your PC. All you have to do is to reboot your machine with this CD inside. Dynebolic requires an Intel-compatible PC. It is distributed under the GNU General Public Licence.

The DIVE CD ROM was created by <KOP> and commissioned by FACT. As a collection of material it is distributed under the Open Content Licence and provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. Works that are part of this CD but clearly identifiable as work stemming from independent contributors / authors, such as art works, essays and programs, are covered by their own licences. Please read the Open Content Licence Agreement.
